Multitude of Monstrous Mixes

eiia0 Multitude of Monstrous Mixes

Unfortunately, last week, and this upcoming week, are extremely busy for me, so I won’t be able to post frequently at all. So, to make up for that, today I will be posting a number of mixes for you to fill the gap with.

The Kleptones – Hectic City 14 M3B Part 2: Stop That, It’s Silly…

The Kleptones are a fantastic mashup act, and occasionally release Hectic City mixes which center around one genre or theme. Number 14 is a three part mix centered on mashups, edits, and remixes. Feel free to check out all three parts, but this one seemed the most accessible to the typical electronic music crowd.

Kerry Leva – Never-Ending Summer #008

I’ve expressed my love for Kerry Leva’s music before, and that’s not changing any time soon. Here is her most recent “Never-Ending Summer” mix, with an original to start things off, and a NIN mashup that reminds me of my love for all things Trent Reznor.

DJ Icey – Automatic Static (May 2012)

The mix of hard-hitting electro and rap is a big plus for this mix- but I cannot stand the constant name drops. Maybe this was made for radio, in which case I understand, but a spoken intro coupled with the constant reminder that we’re listening to DJ Icey is unnecessary in my mind. But the music is more important, and the music is good.

Diplo – Blow Your Head 11

Can’t go wrong with Diplo. There isn’t much that needs to be said about this.

Dada Life – April 2012

Again- can’t go wrong with Dada Life.

Fool’s Gold Radio May 2012

I’ve stated before that I love the clusterfuck of genres that is Fool’s Gold. Add the mixing skills of A-Trak into that and you have Fool’s Gold Radio- a summary of what’s new with the label each month. It’s always good.

And rest assured, I will be back to posting with some regularity soon.

Weekend Finds (4/28-4/29)

TN07Y Weekend Finds (4/28 4/29)
This weekend, I decided to try something different. Rather than giving you a song a day, I’ve looked around a little bit and found a small collection of songs for you to check out. Hopefully something will stand out.

Zedd – Slam The Door (Rogue Remix)

I first heard Slam The Door in Solveig’s Radio Smash mixtape, and I was anxious to see it released. Finally it came out, and I was not disappointed. I love Zedd’s sound. This remix takes the chord progression of the original and adds strings, then flips the drop on its head. Very good.

Wolfgang Gartner – Redline (Preview)

This is an interesting sound coming from Wolfgang. Where most of us are used to the harder hitting sound of songs such as Illmerica, Firepower, and Animal Rights, Redline sounds like he tried to channel Avicii. Not a bad sound, just not what I expected from him. Very melody driven track.

Surkin – Never Let Go (Featuring Kevin Irving) (A-Trak Remix)

It seems the whole dance music world loves songs with one vocal phrase that repeats over and over. I don’t know what it is, perhaps just the fact that you can be sure you’ll know the words if you want to sing along, but whatever the reason, this song sticks to that formula. A-Trak is doing great with this one, and this time, the magic words are “come on, baby, let’s do it.”

TheFatRat – Do Harder Be Faster (Skinny Dip Mashup)

yax2c TheFatRat Do Harder Be Faster (Skinny Dip Mashup)
This is a nice bit of fun, funky electro. TheFatRat’s original song, Do Be Do Be Do shines with the addition of the vocals from Daft Punk’s classic Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. It’s not particularly complicated, or even a new concept (Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger has been subject to far too many remakes, remixes, and mashups), but it’s still a fun little tune, just adding a little extra flavor to a track rather than attempting to reinvent it.

(Just for clarification’s sake- TheFatRat put this together for a summer concert series called Skinny Dip. It’s not a mashup by someone called Skinny Dip. As far as I know, that name is available.)

DJ Fresh ft. Dizzee Rascal – The Power

gRUVS DJ Fresh ft. Dizzee Rascal The Power
I first heard Dizzee Rascal when a friend burnt me a copy of Boy In Da Corner shortly after its release. I loved the grime rap sound, because I was just beginning to get into rap and the sounds were unlike anything I’d heard in my indie-rock-centric world. Years later, I’ve not been as good about keeping up with his music as I should have been, but when I see his name on a track, I almost always give it a listen. This is one of those situations.

This song is short, I’ll admit, but it fits perfectly, and anymore of this song’s very poppy brand of electro house would be too much. But as it is, the little dose of pop makes for a breath of fresh air when faced with the multitudes of songs by producers who seem to be competing over who can cram the most bass into one track. Dizzee’s verses are great too- I’m not going to say that he “goes in hard” or anything like that, because he doesn’t, but they add to the party vibe of the track.

Corbin Hayes Showcase // Upcoming Electro House Artist

Today I’d like to showcase an electro house producer from Florida named Corbin Hayes. He released the A New Life EP a little while ago, and is now back with a remix for Ben Murray’s remix contest. A trance like atmosphere and the heavy hitting, electro drop really stands this one apart. Be sure to check out his stuff and support his remix!

Enur – Calabria (Luke Da Duke Remix)

Oxk1D Enur Calabria (Luke Da Duke Remix)

Calabria. Been a long time since I’ve heard this song, but those horns still get me. I love Luke Da Duke’s work, as I’ve said before, and hearing this moombah twist on a semi-classic song was a great way to start off my day. This is moombah done right, folks. (Plus, after hearing this song, the guys from gLAdiator are considering a collab with Luke. So stay tuned for that.)

deadmau5 – Strobe (Redial Remix)

rATy6 deadmau5 Strobe (Redial Remix)

Got some more mau5 for you today. It’s not exactly a new song, but it’s a new remix. His new song, The Veldt reminded me a lot of Strobe, and I heard the comparison coming up a lot, so I went back and listened to Strobe. Loved it all over again. Then a friend of mine showed me this remix. What I love about this remix is that it keeps the vibe of the original, but adds a great electro drop that really catches you unawares. Should be great for those people who love electro and think deadmau5 is too repetitive.

The BPM is listed as 9001. Heh.

Protoculture – Cobalt

qvkbC Protoculture Cobalt

Trance is a genre I spend far too little time listening to. When I hear records like this one, however, I become temporarily obsessed with it. This is a rip from A State of Trance 556, and it’s just a phenomenal song. Driving beat, while still maintaining the ethereal, uplifting feeling that so often categorizes a good trance song for me. Enjoy the song while I search for more tracks to sate my appetite.
